Retro is Perfection from the Past
Each season brings with it “new” styles in clothing and hair. The truth is, said styles may be new to the person wearing them for the first time, but that does not mean they are completely original. Indeed, each “new” style is actually a subtle or significant variation of a previous style.
Classic Retro
A classic retro hairstyle is one that is always in fashion. A good example of a classic retro hairstyle is the bob. Today’s bob hairstyle, while thoroughly modern, looks just as good as the bob hairstyle of 1995, for they are essentially the same. Another example of a classic hairstyle is the French twist worn by Audrey Hepburn in the ’50s. Women of today still look adorable when wearing a French twist.
Get Glam
For special occasions, many retro styles simply ooze allure. Flowing hairstyles of the ’40s, with perfectly placed curls or enticing, face-framing waves, are perfect examples of completely glamorous looks. Gwen Stefani of “No Doubt” fame wears several fascinating hairstyles that are excellent examples of this era. Of course, for carefree glamour that is also simply stunning, nothing can compare to cornrows with bead accents for an authentic Nubian princess style.
Foxy Hairstyles
In the ’70s, beautiful women were known as foxes, and the hairstyles they wore were considered foxy. One example of a foxy retro look is the long, feathered style worn by Farrah Fawcett when she portrayed Jill Munroe in the original “Charlie’s Angels” series, and another is the sensationally smooth look of Pam Grier when she portrayed Jackie Brown, the sexy ’70s detective. Of course, not many can forget the fabulous Afro style of BeyoncĂ© Knowles as Foxxy Cleopatra in the movie “Goldmember.”
Everything Beautiful is Beautiful Again
So, those who are looking for modern, exciting hairstyles should find plenty of inspiration in the many styles of the past. Those hairstyles looked beautiful then, and minor updates can make them look modern and beautiful again.
